Solar Car Challenge

  • Science Mill 101 South Lady Bird Lane Johnson City, TX, 78636 United States (map)

The Science Mill is excited to welcome participants in the 2026 Solar Car Challenge, one of the nation's premier STEM and renewable energy education programs.

Founded in 1993, the Solar Car Challenge teaches high school students how to plan, design, engineer, build, and race roadworthy solar-powered vehicles. This year's Cross-Texas Driving Adventure will bring teams from across the United States to Texas to showcase the innovative cars they have spent years designing and building.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see these incredible solar-powered vehicles up close, meet the student teams behind them, and learn how science, engineering, teamwork, and alternative energy come together in real-world applications. The Challenge has become one of the country's most respected STEM education programs, inspiring future engineers, scientists, and innovators.
