The Science Mill makes science “snow” much fun! The 5th annual family-friendly Snow Day will be held Saturday, January 18 in the Science Mill’s Science & Art Park, with over 30 tons of real snow. Snow Day is all about hands-on fun, so remember to bring mittens, gloves and other cold-weather gear. All ages welcome.

Snow Day at the Science Mill is open to all and activities (listed below) are free with admission, which includes access to all of the Science Mill's hands-on exhibits and a 3D movie. In addition to special Snow Day activities from 10am-2pm, the museum will be open from 10am-4pm.

Advanced ticket sales have closed. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning Saturday at 10am.

Snow Day 2020 Activities

All activities run from 10am-2pm

Snow Pit: Jump right into the main event: more than 30 tons of real snow! Make snow angels, snowballs, snow sculptures, snow castles and, of course, amazing memories together.

Mini Snowman Build-a-thon: Calling all mini snowman makers! January 18 is World Snowman Day – see how “18” makes a mini snowman? – and we want to see your coolest, craziest icy creations.

Live Ice Sculpting: Watch science and art combine as chainsaw artist, Griffon Ramsey, transforms a block of ice into a glittering sculpture you have to see to believe.

Snowball Slingshot: Ready…aim…cool! Earn points for every target you hit; we’ll keep a leader board of top scores throughout the day, with a prize for the sharpest slinger.

Abominable Obstacle Course: Try your hand at our snowball obstacle course. Send “snowballs” sailing through holes, rolling down ramps, and bumping into buckets.

Snowball Slinging Mini Catapult: Design and build a mini catapult to take home. Experiment to see what features will launch a snowball farthest – it’s the physics of fling!

Snow Globe Photo-op: When it’s time to warm up, visit the Mill’s indoor photo booth to take digital pictures that look like you’ve stepped inside a snow globe.

Live Music: Kid musicians and family band, Amber, Johnny and Sharon co-create an interactive show with scarf snowball fights, bug toss games, drumming, dancing, clapping, and singing.

3D Movie: Warm up inside and catch special showings of Wonders of the Arctic 3D every half hour in our 3D movie theater (movie tickets are included with the price of admission).

ALSO: Recharge with hot chocolate, snow cones and local food trucks, including Lady Bird Lane, Kona Ice, Palm Frites, Fat Boys Burgers, Hot Dog King of Austin, and Lady Picoza.
