November Homeschool Day: Light & Sound

This month we are exploring light and sound science! Make your own instruments, light paintings, and explore STEM careers in music technology this month through our various floor activities and learning labs.

Floor Activities

Oobleck on a Speaker - Guests will see unique visualizations of sound waves using newtonian fluid and speakers

Make Your Own Instrument - Guests will create their own instruments to demonstrate how sound is created and how it can be transmitted

Groovy Sound - Guests will make their own paper phonographs to play vinyl records

Music Visualizer - Guests will be able to see the soundwaves of music!

Learning Labs

K-2 Xylophone Water Jars - Students will learn about how sound is made, how sound travels, and apply that knowledge to create their own xylophones using water jars

3-5 & 6-12 Sound Science - Students will explore how sound is made, how sound travels, and learn about careers in music production as they explore different sound-based experiments and create their own sound paintings

STEM Mentorship Hour

Fantastic Foley Fun - Students will apply what they learned about sound science and music production to become foley artists and create sound effects for a movie scene
