Up, Up and Away! - Physics of Flight

Take flight without ever leaving the ground! No need to fight the holiday crowds at the airport, just come to the Science Mill for Up, Up, and Away, three days dedicated to the physics of flight.

Explore the principles of lift, drag, weight and thrust with hands-on activities for the whole family, including paper airplanes, egg drop, wind tunnel, and paper plate disc golf. Special activities are from 11am-2:30pm, but the Science Mill is open 10am-5pm all three days.

Wind Tunnel
Make your own flying object and watch how it travels through the wind tube. Can you adjust the weight of your object to make it hover inside the tube?

Egg Drop
Construct a parachute and landing gear that will get your egg to the ground safely! Every hour, starting at 11:30am, Science Mill staff will drop the eggs off the silo one-by-one, measuring hang time and breakage.
