Grand Opening: Science Mill Food Forest

  • Science Mill 101 South Lady Bird Lane Johnson City, TX, 78636 United States (map)

In creating a sustainable future, it’s important to get back to our roots.

This August 19, join us for the grand opening of the Science Mill’s newest exhibit: the Food Forest. Within this 1,300 square foot space in the museum’s Science & Art Park are raised beds planted with a variety of native crops, a stunning herb spiral, and saplings of fig and pear trees. As an ever-evolving, living exhibit, the Food Forest offers visitors a unique experience with every visit. Educational components like interactive exhibit elements and guidance from museum educators are designed to grow visitors’ environmental literacy and instill in them a greater appreciation and understanding of the necessity of a balanced ecosystem to food security.

Today’s students have a monumental role in creating future solutions to the severe environmental issues we face today. At the Science Mill Food Forest, they have the opportunity to nurture their curiosity about food and ecology, experience up close what it means to work in harmony with nature rather than against it, and inspire them to become champions of conservation and sustainability.
