Fun With Chemistry features women in natural sciences

Join us on Saturday, May 5, 2018, for a day dedicated to women in STEM. Fun with Chemistry featuring the UT Women in Natural Sciences group will be on site with hands-on activities and shows. These hair-raising, mind-melting experiments will blow you away! All activities and shows are free with museum admission.

“I am highly motivated to inspire students of all ages to pursue a degree in STEM - all while diminishing the stigma around women in science.”
Kate Biberdorf, Ph. D., Lecturer and the Director of Demonstrations and Outreach for The University of Texas at Austin

Hands-On Activities, 10:30a.m. - 1:30 p.m.:

  • Moon Rock Station - Carve your own personal moon rock made with materials you can find at home!

  • Oobleck Station - Observe the physical properties of a non-Newtonian fluid when a solid substance melts in your hands!

  • Van der Graaf Station - Interact with an electrostatic generator and feel the current run through your veins… and possibly even your hair!

Shows scheduled multiple times between 10:30a.m. and 1:00p.m.:

  • Oscillating Clock - Watch the Briggs-Rauscher reaction in action when a solution magically changes colors!
