Before booking your field trip, please take a look at these FAQs.
+ WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
Payment must be made 2 weeks prior to field trip visit. Any necessary refunds will be issued through our business office and mailed 1-2 weeks after field trip. Refunds less than $25 will not be issued, but will be used as a donation to support field trips for low income students.
+ WHAT IS THE TYPICAL FIELD TRIP AGENDA?
Each field trip agenda is designed to maximize your time here at the Science Mill and is dependent on your requested activities and number of students. All field trips include avatar customization, free exploration time, a 3D movie, and time for lunch. If you requested a Learning Lab during the reservation process, that will also be scheduled for you. You will receive your unique agenda approximately 2 weeks before your field trip.
+ HOW DO WE PAY FOR THE PROGRAMS?**
Payment by check, credit card, or district P.O. is due upon receipt of your invoice. Full payment is due no later than two weeks before your visit.
+ HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION AND WHO CAN ANSWER QUESTIONS?
Please complete the reservation request form on the Reservations webpage. We will contact you within 3 business days to confirm your reservation. If you have further questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
+ WHAT IS THE OPTIONAL LEARNING LAB?
Learning Labs are 45-75 minute, facilitated explorations of STEM topics and careers with Science Mill staff. The Labs are offered by grade groups K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Optional Learning Lab Packages are an additional $5 per student and must be booked on the reservation form.
+ ARE THE FIELD TRIPS AND LEARNING LABS ALIGNED WITH TEKS STANDARDS?
Yes, educators have created engaging and inquiry based programming that closely align to TEKS standards.
+ CAN I REQUEST SPECIFIC SUBJECTS OR EXHIBITS BE INCORPORATED INTO OUR VISIT?
Yes, we are happy to work with you to help make your experience the most relevant, engaging and accommodating to your students’ needs, abilities and interests, and compliant with classroom curriculum and standards. Please let us know how we can help in the comments section of the reservation request form.
+ WHERE CAN WE EAT LUNCH?
Weather permitting, lunch will be outside on the picnic tables. In the case of inclement weather, an indoor space will be made available. The museum provides storage space for lunches on arrival. Please bring student lunches in coolers, boxes or baskets to make it easier for your group.
+ WHEN ARE THE FIELD TRIPS OFFERED?
We are now taking reservations for the 2019-2020 school year. The Science Mill will be open to field trips Tuesday-Friday when school is in session. Field trips begin at 9:30am, 10am or 10:30am. The museum closes at 4pm.
+ WHAT ARE THE SIZE LIMITS AND CHAPERONE RATIOS FOR EACH GROUP?
We will work to accommodate your group size to ensure your students have a quality experience. We require there be at least 1 adult per 5 students for elementary classes, and 1 adult per 10 students for middle and high school classes. All school staff attend the Field Trip free of charge. Any other attending guests including parents, guardians, other adults, or siblings will pay reduced Field Trip Admission of $7 per person upon arrival.
+ CAN HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES OR GROUPS SCHEDULE A FIELD TRIP?

+ WHAT IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER ON THE DAY OF MY FIELD TRIP?
In the case of inclement weather, The Science Mill will follow Johnson City ISD closures and delays.
