Field Trip Educator

Join our dynamic, fun, fast-paced world at the Science Mill! We’re looking for an engaging, enthusiastic person to help with K-12 school field trips. You’ll help students interact with exhibits, offer information and answer questions, help teachers and chaperones navigate the museum with their group, and be an important part of our field trip education team. Training will be provided. The position requires part time availability, Tuesday through Friday mornings and early afternoons (approx. 9:30am-2pm) through the end of May 2017. Great opportunity for parents with kids in school, retirees, or anyone who seeks a flexible daytime work environment. Part time work into the summer could also be a possibility.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent public communication skills with children, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to explain science in a fun, engaging way
  • Ability to be flexible and maintain a positive attitude in changing situations
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus
  • Dependable, excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Great attitude and passion for science are a MUST!

Summer SCI Camp Lead Instructor

The Hill Country Science Mill is looking for a full-time summer Lead Instructor to join our science education department and lead in delivering our exciting summer camps at our off-site locations, supported by 3 teaching assistants, in Austin, TX. Responsibilities will include working closely with the Science Mill’s education team, TAs, and Science Mill staff to prepare for and teach our STEM Career Immersion (SCI) camps. Paid training of specific skills and STEM content required for the position will be provided. The position requires full-time availability from June 5th to August 6th, 2017.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Certified teacher with at least 1 year of classroom experience
  • Successful experience working with children; interest in STEM Education
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and passion for the mission of the Science Mill
  • Able to work both independently and as part of the camp/education team
  • Must be outgoing, organized, motivated, passionate and energetic
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be willing to learn new things and work with technology
  • Must travel to the Science Mill from June 5th – 9th& June 12th – 16th for required, paid pre-camp training

Responsibilities will include working closely with the Science Mill’s education team, Lead Camp Instructor, and summer camp staff to prepare for and teach our unique brand of STEM Career Immersion (SCI) camps. Paid training of specific skills and STEM content required for the position will be provided.  The position requires full-time availability from June 5th to August 5th, 2017.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Actively enrolled in and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education or a STEM-related field
  • A clear interest in working with/teaching school-aged children is a must; successful experience working with children preferred

  • Able to work both independently and as part of the camp/education team
  • Must be outgoing, organized, motivated, passionate and energetic
