STEM Education Internship or Fellowship


The Hill Country Science Mill is seeking applicants for a 9-12 month, paid internship or fellowship in informal STEM education. You will be part of our dynamic STEM team whose responsibilities are to:

  • Develop and optimize curricula for inquiry based, hands-on activities for school-age students on field trips to the Mill
  • Develop and optimize curricula for STEM outreach to students following visits to the Mill. The Mill has a unique “avatar platform” that allows students and educators to continue the learning experience online following a visit to the Mill.  We are looking to expand and improve this platform as an important tool for learning and continued engagement with students
  • Expand and scale our STEM summer camps.  These camps are offered on-site (Johnson City) and in both Austin and San Antonio. We aim use to use our avatar platform to provide educational content to students during and following the camp experience

Preferred qualifications include:

Passion for promoting STEM learning through innovation using STEM practices

Advanced undergraduate or graduate student in STEM discipline or STEM Education with documented experience in inquiry-based practices

Experience in curriculum development and writing

20 – 40 hours per week (with flexibility to work remotely)

Stipend commensurate with qualifications and experience

Visitor Services Manager

The Hill Country Science Mill is hiring a Visitor Services Manager who will be responsible for overseeing daily museum floor operations and for ensuring a positive visitor experience for all. The Visitor Services Manager will be the point of contact for all part time staff, will also support the Science Mill Team with marketing duties and special projects, and will support the Director of Development with membership duties.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Daily Operations

  • Open museum daily- turn on exhibits, ensure staff are present and the museum is ready to open
  • Coordinate daily exhibit tours, 3D movies, staff breaks; ensure coverage of all museum floor operations throughout the day
  • Close museum daily- ensure exhibits are properly shut down, cleaning is done, museum is locked and ready for the next day
  • Create monthly staff schedules and be the POC for all part time staff scheduling
  • Train and evaluate staff on a regular basis


  • Support marketing efforts by keeping online event calendars up to date and other activities, as needed
  • Manage the museum’s database system and provide reports to staff


  • Administer the membership program- manage new and renewal memberships, communicate with members, record keeping, and provide reports as needed
  • Help plan and coordinate annual member event

Science Store

  • Maintain daily operations of Science Store
  • Manage inventory and purchase toys


  • Support field trips and other educational programs, as needed


Positive attitude and good communication skills; must enjoy working with people; self-starter; prior customer service work including supervisory experience; attention to detail; ability to work a flexible schedule.
